Shopify POS Pricing (2026)

Shopify POS pricing for 2026: every published tier, processing rates, contract length, and how to buy direct from Shopify Inc without reseller markups.

Shopify POS pricing only makes sense in the context of the Shopify ecommerce plan you're already on — you cannot buy Shopify POS as a standalone product. POS Lite is included free with every Shopify plan ($39/mo for Basic, $105/mo for Shopify, $399/mo for Advanced), while POS Pro adds $89/mo per location and unlocks staff permissions, smart grid checkout, and advanced in-store analytics. If you're an existing Shopify merchant opening your first physical location, POS Lite is functionally free and the math is trivial. If you're a brick-and-mortar shop considering Shopify POS as your primary system, you're really buying a Shopify ecom plan with POS as a bonus.

Published pricing tiers

Every pricing tier Shopify Inc publishes for Shopify POS, verified against the vendor's public pricing page on 2026-04-24. Rates below reflect month-to-month or published annual pricing; negotiated high-volume deals may differ.

How to buy Shopify POS direct (skip reseller markups)

Sign up direct at shopify.com/pos — Shopify doesn't sell through resellers, so there's no markup to worry about. The purchase flow is: (1) choose your Shopify ecom plan, (2) add POS Pro per location if you need Pro features, (3) order a Shopify POS card reader ($49 for Tap & Chip, $349 for the Retail Stand hardware kit). Processing is handled through Shopify Payments by default, which ranges from 2.5-2.9% + 30¢ online depending on your plan tier, and 2.4-2.5% + 30¢ in-person. You can use a third-party processor but Shopify charges an additional 0.5-2% transaction fee to discourage it.

Pricing gotchas most operators miss

The pricing trap: transaction fees if you don't use Shopify Payments. These scale from 2% on Basic down to 0.15% on Advanced, and they apply to every sale — online and in-person — so a $100K/year merchant on Basic is paying $2,000/year extra for the privilege of using Stripe or another processor. The other hidden cost is per-location POS Pro: if you scale to 5 locations, you're paying $445/mo in POS Pro alone on top of your ecom plan. At that scale, Lightspeed or Square for Retail start to look financially competitive.

What's included at every pricing tier

Baseline capabilities shipped with Shopify POS regardless of which tier you pick — these are the features Shopify Inc considers core, not upsells:

  • Unified online + in-person inventory
  • Customer profiles across channels
  • Buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS)
  • Smart grid checkout customization
  • Staff permissions (Pro)
  • Advanced reporting (Pro)
